Designing out waste on the Olympic Park

The construction industry is the UK’s largest consumer of natural resources, using 400 million tonnes of material per year. Minimising waste was therefore a key objective of the Olympic Delivery Authority’s (ODA’s) Sustainable Development Strategy. Designing out Waste was a fundamental aspect of the ODA’s approach to developing the permanent and temporary venues and infrastructure on the Park, helping to meet sustainability and cost targets. This case study reviews some of the key achievements to datea, how they were achieved, and outlines lessons for future projects.
